Bistro Menil (1513 W. Alabama St.), an on-campus cafe at the Menil Collection will open to the public Wednesday, October 1. The restaurant will open for dinner first — reservations available by calling 713-904-3537 — before gradually accepting patrons for lunch and eventually weekend brunch.

Chef Greg Martin, formerly of restaurants like Cafe Annie, oversees the kitchen while Sean Essex acts as beverage director. Sample menu items include duck rillettes with onion jam, cornichons and mustard; pizza with roasted artichoke, chicken tomato sauce and mozzarella and entrees like seared sea scallops with caviar beurre blanc. To accompany those will be wine on tap, local and regional craft beer and wine-based cocktails, plus growlers or casks of beer and wine for purchase for off-campus consumption.
