The Montrose district is a dynamic and creative place that has been built around a sense of community.  The neighborhood supports independent shops and welcomes new ideas — the perfect environment for taking your business from dream to reality.  But we also know that running a business is tough stuff!  It’s easy to be overwhelmed by information, ideas, and, opinions.   Well, MMD wants to help you out!  We like seeing businesses succeed because we believe it builds a stronger community — it’s a win/win for everybody!

So, in an effort to help you create a successful business strategy, MMD has teamed up with leaders in our community for a three-part series of business workshops tackling issues like: writing a business plan, navigating the city’s permitting process, and insights into designing the most effective marketing plan for your business.

There will be something for everyone to learn and share in these workshops — whether you are already established but need to generate momentum or you’re contemplating that big leap into being a business owner for the first time.  Our free workshops are designed to help businesses grow & prosper!

Part II: Navigating the City’s Permit Process

Presented by Brian Crimmins, Chief of Staff, Houston Planning
& Development Department

We know the permitting process can feel cumbersome.  It’s easy to feel frustrated and overwhelmed at the task.  Just know it doesn’t have to be that way!  Join us for an enlightening afternoon with Brian Crimmins.  His easy, approachable style will put you and your frayed nerves at ease.  While he may not be able to change city protocol, he will definitely help make your experience more user-friendly.

Part III: PR/Marketing Primer

Presentations by Michele Price (Tech Street Houston), Grace Rodriguez (Culture Pilot), Brian Block (Pierpont Communications), and Daniel C. Cohen (Red Shift Writers)

MMD closes out the series with a panel of experts in the field of marketing and social media.  This workshop will also include breakout sessions giving each attendee the opportunity to share ideas and leave with a workable strategy.

District provided services such as safety patrols by off-duty HPD officers, graffiti abatement, trash pick-up, maintenance of esplanades, among other services outlined in the Districts’ Assessment Plan, that are supplemental to services provided by the City of Houston, had been reduced in Mid-November and ceased completely as of December 11. The District had to cease the services due to unpaid assessments from some of the commercial property owners within the District.
