Montrose Quick Picks: Three Events To Plan For This August
August is here, and school is just around the corner. Parents everywhere are printing school supply lists, and kids are gearing up to see their classmates. With that in mind, we bring you a list of opportunities to learn and play around Montrose before you buckle down for homework-filled nights.
August 12 from 11-1, 2-4: Paracosm 101: World Building with JooYoung Choi
Bring your teens to this hands-on workshop with artist JooYoung Choi at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston where they will learn to expand their imagination to create new characters, worlds and crafts. When the workshop is over, the whole family can explore Choi’s colorful, imaginative works as part of the “A Better Yesterday” exhibit.
August 18 10:30-11:15am: Our Younger Artists at the MFAH
Not every kid is headed to school this August, but that doesn’t mean they can’t go to class. Register your baby or toddler (up to 35 months old) for Our Younger Artists at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. With the MFAH’s collection for inspiration, young ones can touch, paint and explore with non-toxic materials to create masterpieces of their own.
August 22 from 6-9: Frida and Diego’s Wedding
Celebrate Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s nuptials with Cuchara. If you don’t already know how, learn to play Frida-themed Lotería and enjoy themed drinks while you celebrate the esteemed artist couple. For $40, you’ll receive a card, a wine or beer, and access to appetizers. Costumes are encouraged. Unibrows are optional.
