George Lucas’s influential sophomore feature captures the nostalgia and rebellion of 1962 high school graduates enjoying their last night of summer before moving on to college.
The cast of soon-to-be superstars come of age cruising the strip in their candy-colored cars and staging teenage pranks. Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfuss, Mackenzie Phillips, Charles Martin Smith, and Cindy Williams pay homage to small-town America before the Beatles, the Kennedy assassination, and Vietnam.
The film’s cinematographer was the legendary Haskell Wexler, who passed away last December.
