14 Pews Theatre presents a Houston premiere, The Fever by Wallace Shawn. Performed and Directed by Greg Dean (pictured). Co-directed by Greg Cote. Stage Manager Lulu Tapia.

14 Pews is proud to present our first theatrical production, THE FEVER, by the obie-winning playwright Wallace Shawn. We are also excited about having 17 performances at the elegant La Colombe D’Or Hotel, in their luxury suite, The Cezanne Room, which is perfect for an initimate evening of theater.

You as an audience member have the option to rent the hotel room after the performance and will be listed as our EVENING SPONSOR for the evening.

The one-man play is about a well-to-do cosmopolitan who is exposed to the turmoil and violence of a revolutionary country, a fever ensues.

According to Cressandra Thibodeaux, “Wallace Shawn is one of my favorite living writers. He scripted two films that have inspired me greatly: Vanya of 42nd Street, and My Dinner With Andre. I’m excited to have our first 14 Pews theatrical production be a play written by Wally Shawn and also to have such an amazing cast – our artist-in-resident Greg Dean.

In addition, I’m happy to present the play how Wally Shawn originally intended the play to be performed – in front of no more than 20-25 people.  As I understand, it has not been performed that way since 1991, so I’m excited to have 17 performances inside an intimate hotel suite at the elegant La Colombe D’Or.

And on Monday nights we will perform the play here at 14 Pews for our PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN-NIGHT.

THE ACTOR: GREG DEAN is an actor, director and designer in Houston, TX. Over the past two decades, he has worked with the Catastrophic Theatre, Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company, Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theater, the Houston Shakespeare Festival, the Classical Theatre Company, Horsehead Theater, the Alley Theatre, the West-Mon Repertory Theater, the Urban Theatre Project and Infernal Bridegroom Productions.

THE PLAYWRIGHT: WALLY SHAWN is best known for his character roles in such films as The Princess Bride, Clueless, and Annie Hall as well as his more serious turns in the films My Dinner with Andre and Vanya on 42th Street.

Besides The Fever he has written The Designated Mourner, Aunt Dan and Lemon, and Grasses of a Thousand Colors. He also co-wrote the screenplay for My Dinner with Andre with Andre Gregory, and he scripted Vanya on 42nd Street, a film adaptation of Anton Chekov’s play Uncle Vanya. His latest film from June 2014 was A Master Builder based on the play by Henrik Ibsen.

14 Pews Theatre is funded part by a grant from the City of Houston, through Houston Arts Alliance, a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, and project support from Humanities Texas.
