The seventh annual SPOTLIGHT: The Rice Design Alliance Prize will be awarded to KILO Architectures, founded by Tarik Oualalou and Linna Choi (pictured, photo: Charlotte Valode).
KILO has offices in Paris and Casablanca and recently completed the Moroccan Pavilion for Milan Expo 2015. Their work ranges from tent-like installations to sports complexes to experimental communal housing to visitors centers and museums. KILO believes that stronger design results from architects’ involvement from a project’s inception.
Oualalou and Choi will be at The Musem of Fine Arts, Houston, on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, to present their work and accept the award from RDA’s SPOTLIGHT committee, which includes Lonnie Hoogeboom, John Casbarian, Rafael Longoria, Carlos Jimenez, and Neyran Turan. A reception begins at 6 p.m. with the lecture to follow at 7 p.m. in the Brown Auditorium.
Eligible honorees for SPOTLIGHT must be within their first 15 years of professional practice. The RDA SPOTLIGHT committee convenes annually to consider local, national, and international architects who demonstrate design excellence and promise a great design future. Last year’s Spotlight Award went to a Canadian firm, 5468796. Previous years include Interboro Partners, Pezo von Ellrichshausen, LA DALLMAN, Sou Fujimoto, and Antón García-Abril.
