River Oaks Theatre presents a Special Presentation – ALL’OPERA: La Favorita. One Show Only! Screening Wednesday, July 27 at 7pm!

La Favorita is a French opera in four acts written by Gaetano Donizetti, one of the greatest Italian composers, based on the story The Count of Comminges.

The plot unfolds in Spain in the 14th century, at a time when power struggles between the Church and State were at a high, and their tumultuous existence produced fine operatic passages. John Osborn plays Fernand, a young novice in love with Leonora de Guzman (Veronica Simeoni), the “favorite” mistress of Alfonso XI, King of Castile.

Simeoni fully and intensely embodies Leonora with incredible sensibility. Once the truth is uncovered and their marriage shattered, Fernand returns to the monastery to meditate on this disaster in the sublime aria “La maîtresse du roi! …Ange si pur.” There he will be joined by Leonora, full of regret and exhausted after her long journey to the monastery, in the magnificent duo “Va-t-en d’ici”.

To be recorded live in 2016, La Favorita is sung in French and presented with English subtitles.
