Al otro lado
Directed by Natalia Almada
2005, in English and Spanish
USA
70 minutes
Presented by Dr. Margarita de la Vega Hurtado.
Almada’s extraordinarily complex and original documentary takes audiences across the border as part of a musician’s adventure to explore the worlds of corrido music, economic crisis, drug smuggling, and illegal crossing in search of a better life.
The film is a masterful intersection of the personal with historical, social, and political context. It premiered at the first LATIN WAVE festival at MFAH in 2010.
Natalia Almada is widely recognized as an original filmmaker, who weaves fact and imagination into individual stories such as El general and El velador. She is a producer and an editor and is now completing her first experimental fiction feature.
