One of the most visually acclaimed films of the year, Loving Vincent is the world’s first fully oil-painted feature film. It details the complicated life and controversial death of Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890).
More than six years in the making with the help of 125 artists, this brilliant animated feature is composed of 65,000 painted frames. Drawn from meticulous research and inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings, subjects, and correspondence, the film’s story begins a year after the artist’s death, when the postmaster’s son, Armand Roulin (Douglas Booth), is tasked with delivering the artist’s last letter. Trying to understand what happened, Roulin ends up interviewing those who knew Van Gogh in the artist’s troubled last days.
Among the other actors in the cast are Chris O’Dowd, Saoirse Ronan, and Aidan Turner.
