Who better than hip independent filmmaker Jim Jarmusch to persuade iconic musician Iggy Pop that it was the right time for a documentary about the history of the Stooges, the rock band Pop cofounded?
Formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Stooges established themselves as part of the Detroit scene with a powerful and aggressive style of rock ’n‘ roll that blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed.
Scenes from the Stooges’ shows, interviews with frontman Pop, and commentary from former bandmates trace the trajectory of a band that influenced generations of musicians.
