International exhibited, Houston based artist Edward Lane McCartney presents his newest body of work, Media Whore: the persistence of making, January 16 – February 20, 2016 at Hooks-Epstein Galleries in Houston, Texas.
McCartney states, “I exist in a material world. Daily I am bombarded with a wealth of materials, from the discarded to the procured and those the media and others tell me I need. Media Whore: the persistence of making, is driven by this material awareness.
I live in an era of diminished attention spans, my own included, where the next best thing is waiting just around the corner. I, like others, am privileged to the pleasure of material diversity, spontaneity and the idea of the moment.
Where once at least there was the material constant of the artist and craftsmen, now even the material world evolves at almost the rate of that of the media. New plastics, resins, metal alloys and paints continually come to market, begging for their inclusion and acceptance.
This collection of work represents my way of being and with what the world surrounds me.”
McCartney currently serves as the Board President of The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. He was selected as an HCCC Artist in Residence in 2005 and elected to the Board in 2012.
