Join us at the Armadillo Palace on Friday, November 17 for a performance by Max Stalling! With The Broken Spokes.
Stalling will showcase tunes from his latest album, “Banquet”, beginning at 9 PM in the Dance Hall!
Start with the intelligent lyrical sensibilities of James McMurtry, add some cheerful good humor ala Jimmy Buffet, and set it to a melodic gallop that would do the early Jawhawks proud. He blends great lyrics and spectacular music to achieve a sort of cross between George Strait and Robert Earl Keene, although his voice is much more on par with Strait (no offense Bob).
Max Stalling views himself as a songwriter first and as a performer a distant second. This tidbit might come as a surprise to the multitudes of loyal fans that regularly attend his crowded shows.
Stalling composes songs that seem about the here and now yet seem to also have one foot planted in the past. Sporting a vintage LBJ style “open road” hat, which is dangerously close to becoming his trademark, Stalling’s shows are at once intimate and up-close with him chatting up the crowd between songs, and a ‘tour de force’ of sound on the shoulders of his top-shelf band.
Local favorite The Broken Spokes will open, so be sure to stop by a little early for a drink or two! Tickets are $15, and all attendees must be 21 and over.
Hope to see you there!
