Catherine Couturier Gallery is delighted to present the newest body of work by gallery artist Lori Vrba, entitled The Moth Wing Diaries. The artist will be in attendance at two opening receptions and book signings on Saturday, June 6 from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday, July 11 from 5-7 p.m. The second opening is an ArtHouston opening, and will be an extension of the first show.
This installation of photographs and assemblage is a reflection of her first monograph of the same name which includes an essay by Del Zogg of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
The Moth Wing Diaries is a photographic narrative with themes of memory, loss, providence and revival. Vrba’s work explores her sense of conflict and ultimate peace within the Southern landscape. Her connection to the earth is evident, as is her femininity. The word romantic in this monograph is reconsidered as not so saccharin-sweet, but mystical, intelligent and boldly vulnerable.
Lori is a native Texan now residing in North Carolina. She is a self-taught, film based artist committed to the traditional wet darkroom. She considers her exhibition installations as an important extension of the work itself with recent examples of such in New Orleans, Atlanta, Santa Barbara and Houston. Her work is held in the permanent collections of the Lishui Photography Museum in China and The Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
