Kenny Braun: Surf Texas

Catherine Couturier Gallery is delighted to present the work of gallery artist Kenny Braun, entitled Surf Texas. The artist will be in attendance at the opening reception on Saturday, May 21st, from 5-7 p.m.

But away from the crowds and the hype, dedicated surfers catch waves in places like the Texas Gulf Coast for the pure pleasure of being in harmony with life, their sport, and the ocean.

Kenny Braun knows that primal pleasure, as both a longtime Texas surfer and a fine art photographer who has devoted years to capturing the surf culture on Texas beaches. A 15 year project and the first book of its kind to focus on Texas Gulf Coast surf culture, Kenny Braun captures visually striking black and white photographs romanticizing nature at its finest. Surfing has grown into a multi-million dollar industry with over three million surfers in the U.S.

Austin-based Kenny Braun is an editorial, commercial and fine-art photographer that focuses on environmental portraits, landscapes and personal projects since 1996. His work has been featured in Texas Monthly, Wired, Southern Living and Southwest: The Magazine. His work is featured in numerous private and public collections including The Wittliff Collection at Texas State University.

Kenny Braun: Surf Texas will be on view from May 21 – July 2, 2016. Catherine Couturier Gallery is located at 2635 Colquitt St., Houston, TX 77098. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm.
