Goode’s Armadillo Palace presents Junior Gordon Band.
From the early years of partying all night long to more modern times raising his family, it is time to get to know the main man of this riveting country band.
When Junior Gordon was a kid he remembers riding in the car, singing along with the radio to all of the songs that he would hear. He never thought much about it: being able to remember the words and hearing things in vocals that stuck out to him.
At a very young age he was inspired by one of the greatest dance halls in the world, Famous Gilley’s in Pasadena Texas. It was there that his eyes and ears were filled by the sounds of so many of the greatest country music legends of all time. You see, both of Junior’s parents worked at Gilley’s giving him front row seats at any time to see the hot country favorites.
Imagine what it would be like, at 13, to go to school and tell your friends that you not only saw Conway Twitty, George Strait, Ronnie Millsap, George Jones, Mickey Gilley, and Johnny Lee, but you got to hang out with them too. While in high school he remembers hanging out on the weekends, sitting on tailgates, listening, and singing along to the radio. His friends would always say, “Man, you can sing.” Singing is exactly what he did. Not quite old enough for the bars, his parents would take him to karaoke contest, sign him up, and sit back to watch.
Before he knew it, time had slipped away from him, life took over, and he couldn’t find the time to do much singing. Later, he was inspired by a friend of his that played the guitar and formed the first band. As most first bands do, it fell apart and there were many to follow that did the same. Then in 2007, he was offered a position as a lead singer in a local band that was already established. Before he knew it, he was in front of many new fans and the band was doing great.
Now that Junior is fronting his own band and they have finished their first album BIG, the band and Junior still maintaining a busy schedule. Junior admits that he had to learn a lot about the business and life. He stumbled his way through it all. It was not until 2010 that Junior ever had the inspiration to write. Once that process began, he couldn’t stop himself. The inspiration he needed was found through his wife, Cheramy, and their children. He says watching life unfold, growing out of the partying stage, falling in love, and finding the spiritual side of him is what did it.
Junior is blazing and burning up every stage that he and the band steps foot on. “The doors have opened finally,” he says. Recently they have shared the stage with Hal Ketchum, Sammy Kershaw, Asleep at the Wheel, Jake Hooker, and Wayne Toups. The band has gone through growing pains, learning curves, and sometimes being totally dysfunctional. Junior got tired of making no money and dealing with inflated egos, but he is now backed by the best in the business.
