Cindy Lisica Gallery presents Jennifer McClish: Floating in Space. Opening Reception (Free): September 9th 6:00 – 8:30PM. On view through October 8.

The innovative and explosive work of Jennifer McClish will activate the gallery space with intense color and distinctive character. The Houston-based studio artist collages a variety of materials, including oil paint, ink, plastics, paper, insulation foam, and varnish to build the incredible surfaces of the paintings.

Her inimitable style references pop culture and science fiction, and the works evoke a sense of presence in the cosmos. Floating in Space presents mixed media painting and sculpture and will engage audiences in the artist’s explorations of magnificent texture and vibrancy.

Each distinct element of the intermixed materials provides its own narrative on the canvas. The dynamics of identity and the psychology of our surroundings are constantly at play. Her unique methods and art-making techniques employ illustration and architecture to investigate the internal psyche, as well as social output and human interactions. Ultimately, joy is discovered through honed imperfection.

Jennifer McClish (b. 1982) received her BFA from Memphis College of Art and MFA from University of Houston. She continues to teach Foundation and Studio Art courses in Painting and Drawing at area universities and has held solo and group exhibitions in Baltimore, Memphis, and Houston, including a standout presence in the 2016 MFA Thesis show at the Blaffer Art Museum.

McClish has received a number of awards of recognition for her work and appears in Glasstire, Commercial Appeal, and an upcoming feature in Studio Visit Magazine this fall.
