Anderson Fair presents Jason Bancroft & the Wealthy Beggars.
Jason Bancroft, was born and raised in Houston, TX has been involved in the local music communities of Houston & Austin since 1994. Best known as the founding member of Black Star Brigade, this 7-year punk project achieved both regional and international acclaim.
Swapping the over-driven grit of an electric for the natural tones of an acoustic guitar, Jason began crafting songs in a new direction featuring a definitive Folk/Americana sound influenced with his punk and Texas background. Jason’s duties include vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica.
Backing Jason up, The Wealthy Beggars have included several musicians playing different instruments over the years: Dave Abroms (Black Star Brigade), Eric Bass, Austin Rentfro, Beans Wheeler (Trenchtown Texans), Tim Blackout (the American Heist), Carl Chambless (the American Heist), Dustin Stroud (Say Hello To The Angels)and Travis Smith.
Travis has come to be a permanent member, playing upright bass and backing vocal duties. Travis comes from a family with folk music in their blood. Since the age of 13, he has been a fixture helping run Houston’s legendary Anderson Fair which is one of the oldest folk/original music venues in continuous operation in the United States.
Jason Bancroft and the Wealthy Beggars released their first EP in March 2012 featuring three original songs: The New American Folk, Forty Mile River and Last Crusade. The EP was recorded by Dustin Stroud and released by Jason Bancroft and the Wealthy Beggars on their own.
Jason Bancroft (solo or with the Wealthy Beggars)have played with many bands in many genres of music from Reggae to Punk, Celtic to Comedy Acts and have played venues from SXSW Music Fest to local coffee shops.
