This three hour course will introduce book lovers, including readers and those who appreciate books as physical objects, to the fascinating and addictive pursuit of what has been called “the best indoor sport.”
For those with an interest in starting or expanding a book collection we will discuss the means and methods of book collecting, including how to establish a long term approach to your collecting interests.
If you already have begun a book collection, it will provide you with helpful resources, tips and suggestions gathered from the instructors’ experiences. Whether you are a novice or more advanced collector there will be something of interest.
Topics will include the history of the book; what to collect and how to find books for your collection, both online and off; what makes a book collectable, including why first editions are collected and resources for identifying them; display and conservation of books.
The classes will include hands-on examination of books from The Printing Museum and the instructor’s collections. There will also be an optional “field trip” to the 14th Annual Book Fair at the Printing Museum on October 22nd.
