Inner Worlds: Schumann, Lieberson and Rilke

Da Camera of Houston, in conjunction with its Da Camera at the Menil Series, presents Inner Worlds: Schumann, Lieberson and Rilke Tuesday, December 8 at 7:30pm at The Menil Collection.

Peter Lieberson: Remembering Schumann and Rilke Songs (Houston premiere)

This program explores kindred musical souls separated by 140 years.

Peter Lieberson and Schumann shared a tendency toward dreamy introspection and wild inventiveness. Schumann was a special inspiration to Lieberson, as in the poetic Remembering Schumann for cello and piano.

His Rilke Songs were composed for his wife, the legendary mezzo Lorraine Hunt Lieberson.

Metropolitan Opera mezzo soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano makes her Da Camera debut joined by brilliant cellist Colin Carr and acclaimed pianist Thomas Sauer.
