From December 4—23, 2015, William Reaves Fine Art celebrates the holidays with an exhibition featuring new works by the gallery’s Contemporary Texas Regionalists (CTR).
This holiday show is quickly becoming an annual tradition on the Houston art scene, and highlights these 15 CTR artists from all parts of the state.
Members include Randy Bacon (Albany), Mary Baxter (Marfa), David Caton (Utopia), Margie Crisp (Elgin), Keith Davis (Austin), Charles Ford (Houston), Pat Gabriel (Fort Worth), Billy Hassell (Fort Worth), Lee Jamison (Huntsville), Rob Kendrick (Austin), Laura Lewis (Mason), Wiilliam Montgomery (Elgin), Noe Perez (Corpus Christi), Jeri Salter (Round Rock) and Debbie Stevens (Cypress).
Together, this group represents one of the state’s most significant assemblages of artistic talent, with their individual and collective works having been broadly cited for their distinctive quality and robust Texas style.
Being the only group of painters of this caliber showing together in the state today, theirs is a unique collaboration. They have quickly become a recognized and notable group of contemporary artists, commanding strong interest and garnering accolades from all sectors of the state’s art community.
While producing works of different style, medium and approach, each CTR artist generates a compelling Texas narrative, and each can trace their primary aesthetic inspiration directly to one or more of the great Texas artists of the previous century. In this sense, their compositions extend the grand traditions of Texas painting and provide a modern forum for what constitutes “Texas scene”.
In this exhibition, the group is joined by Fort Worth’s incredible draughtsman Jim Malone, who has recently exhibited as a guest artist in several recent shows at WRFA. Additionally, new works by Houston’s own Hunter George and Erik Sprohge, two of the city’s most admired watercolorists, are being featured as among the foremost of WRFA’s “house” artists.
These gentlemen share their newest output of fine Texas watercolors, adding their own artful interpretations of the continued Lone Star saga and underscoring their expert hand with water-based media. Both artists are mainstays of the local art scene, and their marvelous works serve to further enhance this great exhibition of Texas paintings.
It all combines as the perfect formula for a wonderful Lone Star Holiday – deck the halls with an exhibition of exceptional artists, fill walls to the brim with superb paintings showcasing classic Texas subject matter and invite good friends to share in the spirit of good cheer.
Our gallery takes great pride in presenting these marvelous works to our esteemed friends and patrons as our own visual gift of the season. It is an exhibition certain to fill many eyes with delight, and upon thoughtful examination, may even prove to be just the ticket for some of the best gift selections of the season and beyond.
We’ll hope to see you there.
