Discover Houston Tours presents Free Silk Caravan: Midtown. Visit Houston’s most funky neighborhood before it gets too popular.
What was once the outskirts of Houston became the South End in the late 1800s, then Little Saigon in the 1980s, and Midtown in the 2000s.
Explore pockets from each of these identities as you walk past MidMain, the original home of the Alley Theatre, the most popular place to eat breakfast in Houston, two beautiful churches from the early 20th century, a theater and theater center to be, old residences and businesses side by side with new apartments and shops, the largest fabric store in the United States, and restaurants from around the world.
Experience a short ride on MetroRail.
For over 2,000 years, a group of traders' routes known as"The Silk Road" connected the world's East and West. At its most significant, in the 12th Century, the Silk Road allowed travelers from China to exchange ideas and products with the West, which, in turn, sent representatives of Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity to the East.
We feel that, with Houston's cultural diversity, residents and tourists alike should have an opportunity to experience our new, Texas-style "Silk Road."
Free Silk Road Caravans are a group of people traveling together to Houston’s diverse neighborhoods, using Metro as our form of transportation. They are also Discover Houston Tours’ first experiment with FREE tours, where the guide works on a tips-only basis
