Students at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) will produce and perform Russian author and playwright Anton Chekov’s Three Sisters from November 10 through November 12. Matt Hune, a graduate of HSPVA and founder of Rec Room, directs the production.
Three Sisters is the story of Olga, Masha, and Irina, three former Muscovites living in a small Russian town from which they want to escape.
Written and first performed in the early 1900s, this dramatic play outlines their hopes and dreams of returning to Moscow, where they can surround themselves with those who share their educational and cultural interests.
Newly adapted by Tracy Letts! As the author of August, Osage County – Tracy Letts knows family dysfunction. His sharp, humorous re-telling of the Anton Chekov classic reveals the Prozorov sisters yearning for lively Moscow while they wallow in their “own misfortune, decisions and the inertia of negativity that plagues their family.”
Letts reinforces Chekov’s original intent of the play with an edgy heart that makes this story newly compelling.
