This year, Mental Health America of Greater Houston is celebrating 63 years of mental health education and advocacy. To commemorate this legacy of service, event chairs Molly and Matthew LaFauci and honorary chairs Maureen and Jim Hackett invite you to the 2017 Treasures of Texas tribute dinner where Dr. Lucy Puryear, Medical Director of The Women’s Place – Center for Reproductive Psychiatry at Texas Children’s Hospital, will receive the prestigious Ima Hogg Award for outstanding leadership in the treatment and advocacy of women’s mental health and reproductive psychiatry.
Dr. Puryear is renowned in the field of women’s mental health, and has been recognized by Texas Monthly as a “Super Doc,” H Texas Magazine as one of the “Best Doctors in Houston,” and “Best Doctors for Women,” as well as being named to “Best Doctors in America.” Dr. Puryear holds the Maureen Hackett Endowed Chair for Reproductive Psychiatry at Texas Children’s Hospital, and was recently inducted into the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame. Additionally, Dr. Puryear has made numerous appearances in the national media speaking about women’s mental health issues; including The Today Show, Good Morning America, and Prime Time Live.
Each year in Harris County thousands of women suffer from “baby blues,” postpartum depression, or even postpartum psychosis, yet many of these mothers are unable to seek treatment. Proceeds from Treasures of Texas will benefit MHA of Greater Houston’s efforts to combat the stigma of mental illness, educate mothers on symptoms and treatment options, and inform women on community mental health resources.
