McGonigel’s Mucky Duck presents the Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis Holiday Dinner Shows 2016. The almost-annual event that began in 1999–the couple took one year off for the birth of their twins— has become a tradition for their family and the families of their fans.
Bruce’s and Kelly’s holiday performance finds the husband-and-wife duo of singer-songwriters with a full band singing songs from their Christmas album Happy Holidays. But the show isn’t all about the holidays, it is also a showcase of the best of Kelly and Bruce’s solo careers which continue to flourish.
Bruce says the shows each year are very special to the couple because of the way it brings back memories, “You think about the people you love, friends, family, how lucky you are to have known them.” He understands the wistfulness of the season and the dream of a Christmas that may have never been.
Bruce Robison – Although Bruce Robison is an influential figure in the Texas music scene, his craft of elegant and poignant songwriting extends much further than the Lone Star State border. Heralded by Billboard Magazine as “one of the best of a new breed of singer-songwriters in Texas and beyond,” Robison’s work has garnered fans from all over who appreciate his reputation for writing emotionally complex songs — the kind of songs that send mainstream country stars like Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, the Dixie Chicks and Lee Ann Womack running to the studio.
“I try and remember there’s something very special about music. If it’s only words on a page, it’s poetry,” Robison explains. “Music is about emotion and feelings and getting to the point where it feels good to listen to the rhythm of it. I’m just trying to make music that speaks to people and makes them feel good.”
Kelly Willis – Kelly Willis, named by NPR as “alternative country’s golden goddess…” Kelly Willis is a country music singer-songwriter noted for her clear, unadorned vocal style and her fresh-faced beauty. Willis’ music has been described as contemporary country, alternative country and new traditionalist.
Kelly was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on October 1, 1968, Willis was the youngest of three children. While her father was a U.S. Army colonel, Willis’ mother had a strong interest in music and sang and acted in amateur musicals. Willis began singing when she was nine as a way to comfort herself after her parents divorced.
She is married to country singer-songwriter Bruce Robison.
