Classical Theatre Company is very excited to announce the launch of CTC’s newest piece of programming: Classical Theatre Company’s Lecture Series!
Tying directly into our upcoming production of The Bear & The Proposal by Anton Chekhov, we will be hosting Good Doctor, Great Writer: The Life and Works of Anton Chekhov on Monday October 3 at 7PM here at our theatre. This event is free and will be followed up with some light refreshment. Theatre scholar, author, and artist Kate Pogue will lead the lecture.
Acknowledging CTC’s production of Anton Chekhov’s The Bear & The Proposal, Mrs. Pogue will speak on important aspects of the writer’s life and work.
Ranked with the greatest of Russian writers, Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Chekhov exceeded all of them in writing for the stage. Born in the inconsequential town of Taganrog far from the centers of Russian culture, Chekhov endured an abusive childhood plagued with alcoholism, poverty, insecurity and violence.
His journey to an adulthood of success as a medical doctor, renowned writer, and the care-taker for his extended family is revealed in his plays and countless short stories.
This moving and inspiring journey is the focus of Kate Pogue’s talk.
