The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston presents Conversations with the Director: MFAH Director Gary Tinterow Talks with Henri Loyrette, Thursday, October 13 in the MFAH Brown Auditorium.
In the ongoing “Conversations with the Director” series, Gary Tinterow, director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, engages an eclectic roster of guests in one-on-one conversations about the arts.
In this edition, Henri Loyrette — Paris-based scholar, former director of the Louvre, and organizing curator of Degas: A New Vision —joins Tinterow for an evening of discussion.
Loyrette specializes in 19th-century painting and architecture and is a leading expert on Degas’s work. Over his career, he has curated a number of acclaimed exhibitions including Degas (1988) and Origins of Impressionism (1994), both co-curated with Tinterow.
In addition to focusing on Degas, Loyrette has also published books on Gustave Eiffel, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, and Marcel Proust.
The program coincides with Degas: A New Vision, on view October 16, 2016–January 16, 2017 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the exclusive U.S. venue for the show. The exhibition, which presents more than 200 masterworks by Hilaire-Germain-Edgar Degas, showcases the artist’s work across painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture from the beginning to the end of his career.
