The Blessing of the Animals (St John the Divine Episcopal Church)

St. John the Divine Episcopal Church presents The Blessing of the Animals.

All who love animals, along with their pets and their human friends, are invited to this service (note that all furry friends must be on leashes or in proper crates).

All pets in attendance will be blessed as we focus on God’s gift of animals, the natural world, and our responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation. In addition to a signed certificate of blessing, each pet will receive a special heart-shaped #sjdblessed metal ID tag for their collar.

We are happy to once again welcome Friends for Life, a no-kill animal shelter in the Heights area, to our pet blessing. A pet food drive benefiting Friends for Life will run from September 18 – October 2. Friends for Life will bring their mobile adoption van (MAV) from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with a group of adoptable pets who will be blessed by our clergy.

There will be lunch available from James Coney Island from 11:00 am – 1:30 pm. SPCA complementary microchip services, educational tents, cupcakes (and ‘pupcakes for our furry friends!)

Our clergy will be blessing pets from 12:00 – 5:00 pm.
