Kirsten Johnson is one of the most notable cinematographers working in documentary cinema today, having shot Citizenfour, Fahrenheit 9/11, The Invisible War, and dozens of other essential documentaries.
MFAH Films has recently shown films on which Johnson worked, including Very Semi-Serious, Born to Fly, and Throw Down Your Heart.
With her visually radical memoir Cameraperson, Johnson transforms scenes she’s shot for other directors’ films as her own personal journey. She traverses the planet, reframing the impactful footage to illuminate moments and situations that have personally affected her.
It’s a powerful documentary that serves as an elegant meditation on the relationship between story-telling and the camera frame.
