Nicole Longnecker Gallery presents The Triumph of Romanticism, featuring newly completed conceptual paintings by Houston artist John Jenkins. The exhibit opens Saturday, September 10, 2016 with an opening reception from 5pm –8pm and runs through October 15, 2016.
Jenkins’ colorful acrylic paintings are created using the aleatoric process which forges random visual elements, detached from their normal position or function, into new uses.
“John Jenkins new paintings tap into the undercurrents flowing through today’s world headlines,” said gallery owner Nicole Longnecker. “John’s technical skill combined with his use of new and archival social imagery never cease to entertain the viewer while subtly asking questions about where we fit into his graphically conjoined world.”
JOHN JENKINS: Texas native John Jenkins makes paintings and conceptual artworks. By experimenting with the aleatoric process, Jenkins formalizes the coincidental and emphasizes the conscious process of composition that is behind his seemingly random works. This thought process, which is highly subjective and unfiltered in their references to popular culture and mysticism, is revealed is his body of work.
A finalist for the 2009 and 2010 Hunting Art Prize, his brightly colored acrylic paintings and conceptual sculptures have been shown as far abroad as Frankfurt, Germany and grace many private collections. He currently lives and works in Houston, Texas.
