River Oaks Theatre presents a Special Presentation – Shakespeare’s Globe on Screen: Richard II.  One Show Only! Sunday, September 18 at 11am.

Director Simon Godwin delivers a dynamic portrayal of Shakespeare’s Richard II, a play filled with both violence and comedic irony.

Ruling by divine right, but himself ruled by caprice, King Richard (Charles Edwards) exiles Henry Bolingbroke (David Sturzaker) and seizes his father’s vast estates. While Richard is distracted by a rebellion in Ireland, Bolingbroke returns to England, intent on recovering his rightful property and, with the support of his disgruntled peers, perhaps seizing the crown itself.

Recorded live in 2016, Godwin’s dazzlingly eloquent and ceremonious production represents Shakespeare’s most searching exploration of the meaning of kingship and the rising powers that can destroy it. The rich colors and lavish costumes of this historical play transfer superbly to the big screen.
