Based on the beloved 1932 novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon, Sunset Song addresses rural life in northeastern Scotland during the early decades of the 20th century.
As the old ways fade—agriculturally, domestically, and politically—an independent, passionate young woman named Christine Guthrie (Agyness Deyn) comes of age while her family is ruled by a tyrannical patriarch (Peter Mullan).
“Terence Davies’s careful, patient visual sense brings out the Hardyesque nature of this story . . . this primal contrast of human suffering with natural beauty is a paradigm that persists in British social realist movies today.” —The Guardian (UK)
“Terence Davies hits a new high note with the gorgeous Sunset Song. Every new Davies film feels like a miracle . . . and Agyness Deyn delivers a breakout performance for the ages.” —IndieWire
