Enjoy your day off relaxing at beautiful Rienzi! Monday, September 5 it’s Labor Day at Rienzi!
Activities last all day, from a lecture by a master gardener to storytime, a tour of the gardens, and more. Drop by and discover the oasis of nature and art at the MFAH house museum for European decorative arts and paintings.

10 a.m. Family Activities: Flora, Fauna & Friends
Create your very own fairy and forest friends outside by the Pool Garden
10 a.m.–4 p.m. Picnic on the Great Lawn
Bring your picnic basket and your blanket to sit and enjoy our wonderful gardens.
10:30 a.m. Storytime in the Peacock Garden
Join us for storytime in the shade as we read A Fairy Friend by Sue Fleiss
11 a.m. Garden Tour
2 p.m. Lecture with Master Gardener John Jons: “Anyone Can Grow Roses”
John Jons, master gardener and recipient of the 2016 National Convention & Rose Show first-place prize for hybrid roses, discusses how to grow roses in Houston. Learn more.
3–5 p.m. Flora and Fauna of Rienzi
Experience Rienzi at your leisure, with docents stationed throughout the house focusing on “Flora and Fauna” in the Rienzi Collection.
Pictured: The award-winning Southern magnolia that determined the site for Rienzi dominates the Camellia Garden. Several varieties of camellia japonicas grow here, including Kramer’s Supreme, Mathotiana Supreme, Debutante, and Guilo Nuccio. Many of them have been at Rienzi since it was built. Pink Ruffle azaleas border this area and add additional color during the spring.
