Private Property

Directed by Leslie Stevens
1960, USA
B/W, 79 minutes
DCP

Drifters Boots and Duke (played to creepy perfection by Warren Oates and Corey Allen) wander into the pristine Beverly Hills home of unhappy housewife Ann (Kate Manx).

Oates delivers his first great screen performance, before he emerged in The Wild Bunch and Two-Lane Blacktop as one of the finest character actors of his generation.

A major rediscovery for noir and crime-film fans, Private Property was considered lost until recently, and it is presented in a new 4K digital restoration.

“A sort of hothouse late-period film noir, Private Property is deeply bizarre and incredibly compelling. Considering the talent involved—director Leslie Stevens, cameraman Ted McCord, actor Warren Oates—it’s very rare to rediscover a completely lost crime film like this.” —David Marriott, Cinelicious
