Laura Rathe Fine Art presents Meredith Pardue: The Body Electric April 8-May 21, 2016, with an opening reception 6-9 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Born in Monroe, LA, Meredith Pardue, is an acclaimed contemporary artist, whose works are widely recognized for its abstract botanical forms and scenes derived from nature.

Upon receiving a B.F.A. from Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia, she was accepted and completed her M.F.A. at Parsons School of Design in New York. Following her art studies and education, Pardue traveled extensively across the U.S., finding and drawing inspiration from the varied regions and coasts of the South, Pacific Northwest, and Northeast.

Today, Pardue’s works continue to gain critical acclaim, and are prominently displayed in several private and notable corporate collections including J. Crew Corporate Headquarters, Genstar Capital, BBVA Compass Bank, The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, Oceania Cruise Lines, Scott and White Children’s Hospital, and the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited worldwide and has been published in a variety of periodicals including Architectural Digest, Dwell, New American Paintings, and Austin Monthly Home.

STATEMENT

“My paintings are visual records of nature’s cycles of growth and decay. I combine the random actions of painting with controlled, deliberate mark making to describe each form, which is often floral or plantlike in structure.

I could say that I intimate a certain relationship between physical and psychological space in my work, because in a sense that is true. But my approach to making a painting is much more comfortable, intuitive, and personal than that. And so, the result of this visual investigation—the painting—reflects that process. I am most interested in extracting singular experiences from nature’s endless cycles, and in transforming the public world of nature into a place of private knowledge.”
