Moody Gallery is pleased to present Born Again, the gallery’s seventh solo exhibition with Michael Bise.

Bise presents thirteen new drawings in which contemporary American life is viewed through the lens of his own experience. In these new drawings autobiography, rich mark-making and complex composition come together in a visual language that seeks the universal in the deeply personal.

Michael Bise was born in Flagstaff, Arizona and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1990. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at the University of North Texas in 2001 and his Master of Fine Arts in drawing and painting at the University of Houston in 2005.

His work has recently been exhibited at the National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago, Illinois; the Art Museum of Southeast Texas; the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Lafayette, Louisiana; the McKinney Avenue Contemporary, Dallas; and Fort Worth Contemporary Arts at TCU.

His work has also been shown at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, San Antonio; the Galveston Arts Center, Texas; Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, The Gallery at the University of Texas at Arlington; and Texas State University, San Marcos.

He was a recipient of a Houston Arts Alliance Individual Artist Grant and an Artadia Finalist in 2014 and was awarded The Hunting Art Prize, an Artadia Finalist, and a Nominee for the Texas Contemporary Award in 2012. His work is part of the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and the Houston Airport System, City of Houston.

He also regularly contributes criticism and reviews for the online art journal Glasstire.

Born Again is on view at Moody Gallery Saturday, January 16, 2016 through Saturday, February 20, 2016. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, January 16 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm with a conversation with Clint Willour at 3:00 pm.
