FotoFest 2016 Biennial: Kathryn Rabinow: Abstract / Random / Concrete / Sequential (at Jung Center of Houston)

Jung Center of Houston presents Kathryn Rabinow: Abstract/Random/Concrete/Sequential. Opening reception: Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Abstract/Random/Concrete/Sequential, the upcoming photography exhibition by Houston artist Kathryn Rabinow, is based on her theory that our individual experiences of art are shaped by the ways our minds first register information and then process that information — our learning style.

Using the terminology of psychologist Anthony Gregorc, Rabinow created a variety of images, some traditionally beautiful and others intellectually challenging, that will ‘speak’ to the four different learning styles of the viewers.

The results are images that viewers find absolutely stunning.

As a self-taught photographer, Rabinow uses a spontaneous approach to digital photo manipulation creating each of her signature abstract pieces through its own, unique evolutionary process. Using varying degrees of photography alternation to create the finished works, each image resonates differently with viewers as they bring their experiences and learning styles to the interaction.

Psychologist Anton Gregoric developed a classification system that could be used to identify learning and personality styles of adults. As a former psychologist Kathryn is certain that her photographic work will resonate differently for each viewer depending upon his/her predominate type.

When she creates her art, what Kathryn does with her camera and computer reveals much about her. But the creative process is not Kathryn’s alone; it takes place each time a viewer pauses to contemplate one of her images.
