Jung Center of Houston presents the exhibition Poetry and Geometry: The Art of Fariba Abedin. This exhibit will be on display from February 2-27, 2016 at the Jung Center, 5200 Montrose Blvd. The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, February 13, from 5:00-7:00 pm..
Fariba Abedin’s large-scale, meticulous, and gloriously colorful geometric paintings give the effect of looking into a giant kaleidoscope. Her work is inspired by ancient Persian architecture, poetry, and calligraphy and explores geometric abstraction with an emphasis on color study.
Although Abedin’s work is geometric and structural, it is also tender and appealing in its appreciation of nature, science, and history. Her incorporation of Sufi poetry conveys a message of love and peace.
Fariba Abedin is an Iranian American artist currently living and working in Houston, TX. She was nominated as one of the top 5 artists to watch in 2014 and 2015 by Houston Magazine.
For more than 50 years, The Jung Center has served as a nonprofit resource offering dynamic and compelling classes – “continuing education for the human spirit” – on a diverse range of psychological, artistic, and intellectual topics.
The Jung Center’s building was originally designed as an art gallery and mounts approximately nine exhibits of work by both established and emerging artists each year. The Jung Center is an active member of the Houston Museum District. Admission to the gallery and opening receptions is free and open to the public.
