McGonigel’s Mucky Duck presents Kristin Hersh, Sunday, October 18.
Highly acclaimed singer/songwriter and author Kristin Hersh is a founding member of the bands Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave. She is known for creative chord chemistry, hypnotic sonic treatments and a vocal style ranging from softly melodic singing to impassioned screaming; her signature contributions to popular music include addressing the complexities of marriage and motherhood through impressionistic and sometimes hallucinatory lyrics about everyday feelings and varying mental states.
Her memoir Rat Girl was widely-praised by publications from the New York Times to Rolling Stone, which named it one of the top ten best rock memoirs ever written.
Hersh recently released Don’t Suck, Don’t Die: Giving Up Vic Chesnutt on UT Press. A haunting ode to a lost friend, this memoir offers the most personal, empathetic look at the creative genius and often-tormented life of the late singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt that is ever likely to be written.
Kristin Hersh tours the U.S. this fall with a series of performances and book signings in support of the book.
