The Menil Collection presents Marion Barthelme Lecture Series: Yve-Alain Bois.
The third annual lecture in memory of Menil trustee Marion Knox Barthelme Fort, is presented by French critic, curator, and art historian Yve-Alain Bois who will speak about American artist Ellsworth Kelly.
In his distinguished career, Bois has been the Joseph Pulitzer Professor of Modern Art and Chair of the Department of the History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University. He is now Professor of Art History at the Institute for Advanced Study in the School of Historical Studies at Princeton University.
For five decades, Ellsworth Kelly—painter, sculptor, printmaker—has explored pure abstraction with color, continually refining and simplifying his use of shapes and color relationships. Kelly’s work at Menil includes the multi-part Tablet, 119 drawings and collages made between 1948 and 1973.
