The Menil Collection presents Glenn Kotche.

In conjunction with the exhibition Apparitions, composer and percussionist Glenn Kotche presents a solo performance, which includes a work commissioned by the Menil Collection for this concert.

As John Cage “prepared” a piano by adjusting or augmenting its strings, Kotche uses intervention to plumb the percussive possibilities of found objects like scrap metal and hubcaps, or to make his own instruments.

Kotche was born in Illinois in 1970. Since 1994, he has been a member of the six-man, Chicago-based alternative rock band Wilco. Before joining the band, Kotche released three solo albums in which he explored drum improvisation, composition, and performance.

In addition to performing, touring, and recording with Wilco, Kotche is a founding member of two other bands, Loose Fur and On Fillmore. He continues to pursue his own projects such as collaborations with the Kronos Quartet, Bang on a Can All-Stars, eighth blackbird, and other contemporary chamber music ensembles.

The program was arranged by John Corbett.
