Nicole Longnecker Gallery presents Further featuring new work from John Adelman. The show runs September 12 to October 17, 2015, and opens with an Artist’s Reception on Saturday, September 12 from 5pm to 8pm.
Adelman’s precision drawings are taking on new life as he explores the intersection of drawing and sculpture.
“We are excited to show John’s new assembled drawings to our Houston collectors. He is reaching into new territory with work that defies the frame’s edge,” said gallery owner Nicole Longnecker.
About the artist:
Originally from Ohio, John Adelman received his BFA from The Ohio State University in 1992 and his MFA from the University of North Texas in 2006. His work has been shown in solo exhibitions in Turkey and the Czech Republic, seen in group exhibitions in Australia, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, and in numerous exhibitions all across the United States.
Artist Statement:
My previous dismantled object drawings showed a comparison between the original object and the drawing. Every drawn part of the original directly relates to its location on the real item. In 2014 while drawing a Japanese pachinko machine, the art asked for a three-dimensional enhancement; one that could be achieved by attaching a genuine component to the drawing.
Through this process the drawing now had a direct connection to the dismantled object. I feel this process achieves a greater complexity where the “real” and the art become even more challenging for the viewer to separate.
Further highlights the combination of two-dimensional with three-dimensional, as well as uniting drawing, painting and sculpture.
