For 40 years, Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado traveled the continents, in the footsteps of an ever-changing humanity. He has witnessed some of the major events of recent history—international conflicts, starvation, and exodus.
He is now embarking on the discovery of pristine territories, of wild fauna and flora, and of grandiose landscapes as part of a huge photographic project paying tribute to the beauty of planet Earth. In the hauntingly beautiful documentary The Salt of the Earth, Salgado’s life and work are revealed by codirectors Wim Wenders and Juliano Salgado—Sebastião’s son and frequent traveling companion.
The Salt of the Earth was a nominee for Best Documentary Feature at the 2015 Academy Awards.
