Midtown Bar and Grill: Making Over a Montrose Classic

Burgers, soup, sandwiches, appetizers, seafood, pizza, and Greek specialties like lamb and souvlaki plates––that’s what’s on the menu at the Midtown Bar and Grill, 415 West Gray.

Midtown is open 24 hours, with all day breakfast and farmer’s market fresh veggies.

What was formerly the family-owned West Gray Cafe was reopened with a new look in January 2013 by manager Tommy Karagiannis.  Since the renovation, a newer crowd is being drawn in, including students, medical personnel, neighborhood residents, and downtown workers heading home.

The second floor lounge can be used to host private parties and live music, Karagiannis said. That could include some jazz, some rock, and maybe a little karoake, he added. “We’re just looking to accommodate everybody in every way we can,” he said.

Recently, they accommodated notorious Texas politician Kinky Friedman, currently running for Agricultural Commissioner on what is always an interesting ticket. Friedman stopped by to greet supporters, fans, and curious onlookers, and our Business Ambassador Marie Cortes snapped this shot of Friedman with Karagiannis.
