Weeklong Houston Cinema Arts Festival Kicks Off

Port Arthur native Janis Joplin is the focus of the film Janis: Little Girl Blue

The Houston Cinema Arts Festival kicked off Thursday with a full week of programming at venues throughout the city, including four in Montrose: the MFAH, the Menil Collection, Cafe Brasil, and the She Works Flexible art gallery. As reported by the Chronicle’s Andrew Dansby, this year’s featured films include Janis: Little Girl Blue, a feature film about Port Arthur native Janis Joplin; artist Laurie Anderson’s documentary Heart of a Dog; and a special 20th anniversary screening of Apollo 13 featuring appearances by screenwriters Al Reinert and William Broyles.
