Add to calendar

Writers in the Schools (WITS) is offering a Winter Slam Camp over the holidays.

For three days, students can give performance a try. Join us Tuesday, January 2 through Thursday, January 4 at the WITS Meeting House, 1519 W. Main St. in the Houston Montrose neighborhood.

This WITS Winter Slam Camp is for young writers, 5th-8th grade, who are looking to develop their creative voice. Students will write about personal experiences and the issues that they care about most. They will develop slam pieces under the guidance of WITS’ internationally-ranked Meta-Four coaches.

Your child will dive into the writing and performance process and explore revision techniques, building their confidence and stage presence.

The workshops will conclude with a poetry slam showcase for family and friends.

  • Where: WITS Meeting House, 1519 W. Main St. in the Houston Montrose neighborhood
  • Time: 10am – 2pm each day
  • Who: 5th – 8th graders

District provided services such as safety patrols by off-duty HPD officers, graffiti abatement, trash pick-up, maintenance of esplanades, among other services outlined in the Districts’ Assessment Plan, that are supplemental to services provided by the City of Houston, had been reduced in Mid-November and ceased completely as of December 11. The District had to cease the services due to unpaid assessments from some of the commercial property owners within the District. Please direct questions regarding the cessation of services to Executive Director, Ben Brewer at BBrewer@MontroseDistrict.org. We are committed to helping our neighborhood remain the safe, vibrant and attractive place to live and do business and would like to hear from you on how we can continue to work together in this effort.
