Houston Galveston Institute will be hosting their annual Blues, Barbecue & Beer event on April 8, 2017, 6:00 p.m. – ? in Montrose, outdoors at a private residence. But this residence is great, it has a built in stage in the backyard and has numerous concerts during the year. When you buy your tickets, the address will be on the receipt.

This concert will feature:
• Carl Weathersby and the band of a bass player, keyboard player and drummer. They are world class. The band recently played the Lucerne Blues Festival. Carl was born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago, where he spent most of his music career. He now lives in Austin. He was a protégé of Albert King, one of the greatest blues musicians of all time and played with his band for 7 years. He has also played with many other blues greats. He has a powerful blues voice and is a great lead guitar player. We expect a great show.

• Gail Best, one of the most up & coming blues artist in Texas, and will have a new album out this coming early fall or late summer.

Tickets are $30 and includes barbecue dinner catered by Demeris BBQ, drinks (St. Arnold’s Beer, soft drinks, etc.), dessert, and entertainment.

District provided services such as safety patrols by off-duty HPD officers, graffiti abatement, trash pick-up, maintenance of esplanades, among other services outlined in the Districts’ Assessment Plan, that are supplemental to services provided by the City of Houston, had been reduced in Mid-November and ceased completely as of December 11. The District had to cease the services due to unpaid assessments from some of the commercial property owners within the District. Delinquent assessments for 2016 and prior years are being collected for services that were delivered in 2017. The current lawsuit status does not affect the collection of delinquent assessments due for 2016 and prior years for services rendered for calendar year 2017. Please direct questions regarding the cessation of services to Executive Director, Ben Brewer at BBrewer@MontroseDistrict.org. We are committed to helping our neighborhood remain the safe, vibrant and attractive place to live and do business and would like to hear from you on how we can continue to work together in this effort.
